Buhari Signs Coronavirus Health Protection Regulations

As part of efforts to enforce the COVID-19 safety protocols, President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Coronavirus Health Protection Regulation 2021 into law.
The President signed the six-part document which covered restrictions on gatherings, operations of public places, mandatory compliance with treatment protocols, offences and penalties, enforcement and application, interpretation and citation.
The document states that any person who contravenes the provisions of the regulations is punishable by a fine or a term of six months imprisonment or both in accordance with Section 5 of the Quarantine Act.

Nigeria has been grappling with a significant increase in number of infections since the second wave of the virus began.
As of Tuesday night, Nigeria has recorded 124,299 cases with 99,276 successfully treated and discharged while the death toll has reached 1,522.
