Buhari Threatening Nigerian Elites Who Condemn Herdsmen Activities With EFCC – Ortom
Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom has berated President Muhammadu Buhari for purportedly stifling dissenting voices who decried the activities of herdsmen in the country.
Speaking during a press briefing in Markurdi, the state capital on Wednesday, Ortom said people are scared of criticising the current administration over the troubling state of the nation because they don’t want security and anti-graft agencies breathing down their neck.
Benue has been a hotbed of killer herdsmen activities as it has been gravely devastated by the murderous actions of the marauding pastoralists.
Ortom accused the president of gagging anti-herdsmen voices and also clamping down on influential persons that condemn killer pastoralists from the controversial ethnic group with both anti-graft and security operatives.
“Some peoples are afraid in this country to talk, because when they do, EFCC, ICPC and security agencies will come after them,” the Benue chief executive said at a press briefing in Makurdi Wednesday.
“They did it to me, but I went to court against them and won,” he stated.
Ortom chided the Buhari regime for its perceived sentiment and obvious support for rampaging herdsmen, in light of its failure to curb the excesses of the herders.
Recounting Mr. Buhari’s inaugural address after being sworn in for his first term in 2015, wherein the president had vowed to uphold the interest of every part of the country, Mr. Ortom added: “…now it will appear that you (Buhari) are for Fulani people because nothing is coming from you to give the people confidence that you are their president.”
Buhari has propped its administration on a vaunted war against corruption since he assumed office, the drive has been marred by credible claims of partisanship in the operation of anti-graft agencies.
Ortom noted that many opposition politicians and business owners have deemed wise to keep quiet to avoid incurring Buhari’s misguided wrath, which could then summarily make them an instant person of interest for law enforcement.
