EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the suspects were apprehended on Monday along the Kaduna-Kano Expressway in Kaduna State.
According to Adejobi, the police noticed suspicious activities involving the suspects, prompting an investigation. A subsequent search led to the recovery of 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one round of AK-47 ammunition.
“The suspects were apprehended after our operatives observed their suspicious behavior. Following the arrest, a search was conducted, leading to the recovery of significant ammunition,” Adejobi stated.
Meanwhile, in Anambra State, the Police Command has arrested a suspected gunrunner believed to have rented firearms and other weapons to criminals operating in the Awka area. The suspect, who hails from Izzi LGA in Ebonyi State, was apprehended on December 6, 2024.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Anambra, said the arrest was the result of an operation by the Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugu Ukwu, based on credible intelligence. The police raided a notorious crime spot in Umunaga village, Awka South LGA, where two other suspects from Umunaga and Umuneri villages were arrested.
Items recovered from the suspects included one pump-action gun, three live cartridges, a cutlass, charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs. Additionally, two female victims, who had allegedly been sexually abused by the suspects, were rescued during the operation.
Further investigations revealed that the arrested suspects had rented firearms and weapons from the gunrunner. Ikenga stated that the gunrunner’s arrest followed swift action by police operatives, and the case would be brought to court after further investigation.
