Buhari Urges S/African Authority To be More Pro-Active, Calls For Tolerance

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the South African authority to be more proactive in detecting early signs of violence among competitors while condemning the recent attack on Nigerians.

Buhari made the call at a joint press conference with his South African counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday in Pretoria.

Buhari called for more tolerance and vigilance on the part of the security agencies to ensure that lives and properties of residence are protected.

He said “competition heralded by globalisation, especially with ease in migration, will only get more intense for businesses.

“Police must be on alert not to allow violence to escalate.”

Buhari also advised Nigerians living in South Africa to adhere to the laws and customs of their abode.

“Like it is said, ‘when you are in Rome behave like the Romans’. Always be law abiding,’’ he said.

Buhari however assured his counterpart that South African citizens and businesses in Nigeria would be protected.

On his part, his South Africa counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his remarks applauded the visit describing it as first of its kind since the inception of his administration.

Ramaphosa noted his government would create enabling environment that would enhance Nigerian businesses.
