Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has been suspended for one match and fined 25,000 euros following an offensive gesture during the German Super Cup clash against VfB Stuttgart.
As a result, Boniface will miss a German Cup match but will be available for Bayer Leverkusen’s opening Bundesliga game of the new season on Friday against Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Nigerian international made the gesture, showing his left middle finger to VfB Stuttgart players as he ran past them immediately after the final whistle of last Saturday’s DFL Super Cup match in Leverkusen.
Referee Tobias Stieler confirmed he did not see the incident during the match, leading the disciplinary committee to investigate and issue charges retrospectively.
Both Boniface and his club have accepted the ruling, making it legally binding.
