Bundesliga: Boniface Nets Winner As Leverkusen Beat Frankfurt

Bayer Leverkusen clinched a crucial 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in an exhilarating Bundesliga clash at the BayArena, with Victor Boniface overcoming an early penalty miss to score the decisive goal.

The match kicked off with penalty drama, as Boniface missed from the spot in the ninth minute before Omar Marmoush converted for Frankfurt seven minutes later.

Robert Andrich leveled for Leverkusen before halftime, setting the stage for Boniface’s 72nd-minute winner, which moved Leverkusen ahead of Frankfurt in the league standings, handing the visitors just their second defeat of the season.

Leverkusen’s dominance was evident, boasting an impressive xG of 4.29 compared to Frankfurt’s 1.21, as both teams showcased their attacking firepower.

In the opening minutes, Boniface saw his penalty saved by Frankfurt’s goalkeeper, Kevin Trapp. Soon after, Marmoush scored from the spot for Frankfurt, continuing his impressive form with a goal in his sixth consecutive Bundesliga match.

Leverkusen responded strongly, and in the 25th minute, Andrich scored a well-crafted team goal to equalize, after combining with his teammates to slot home.

Frankfurt nearly retook the lead before halftime through Hugo Ekitiké, but his goal was ruled offside, leaving the score level at the break.

Leverkusen dominated the second half, with Granit Xhaka pulling the strings in midfield and Jeremie Frimpong posing a threat down the right.

Despite Frankfurt’s counter-attacking threat, Leverkusen found the breakthrough in the 72nd minute, as Boniface rose to head home a deflected cross from Florian Wirtz, sealing the win for the hosts.
