Edo Queens staged a dramatic comeback to defeat defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in their final group match of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, securing a spot in the semi-finals of Africa’s premier club competition.
The Nigerian champions topped Group B with seven points from three games, overcoming a first-half setback to claim victory.
Melinda Kgadiete gave Sundowns the lead in the 28th minute, while Chioma Olise missed a penalty for Edo Queens in the 54th minute, leaving the South Africans in control.
However, the game took a stunning turn in stoppage time. Emem Essien equalized five minutes into added time, and substitute Mary Mamudu sealed the win with a last-gasp strike just moments later.
In the group’s other match, Egypt’s FC Masar secured second place with a 2-1 win over Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank FC, while both Mamelodi Sundowns and CBE FC were eliminated from the competition.
