Former Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie has praised Edo Queens following their thrilling victory over Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
Edo Queens, making their debut in the CAF Women’s Champions League, needed at least a draw in their final Group B match to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

For Mamelodi Sundowns, it was a must-win game after they recorded one victory and one defeat in their opening two matches.
The South African side took the lead in the 24th minute through Melinda Kgadiete. However, in dramatic fashion, Emem Essien equalized in the 95th minute, and Mary Mamudu scored the decisive goal in the 11th minute of added time, securing a 2-1 win.
Reacting to the thrilling win, Oparanozie took to X (formerly Twitter), writing, “2 goals after 90 minutes. Na Edo Queens dey run am. Naija champions indeed. I’m proud of this team.”

With seven points, Edo Queens topped the group, while Sundowns, who finished third with just three points, were eliminated. Egyptian club FC Masar, also debutants, advanced to the semi-finals after finishing second with seven points, while Ethiopia’s CBE finished bottom with no points.
Edo Queens will now face AS FAR in the semi-finals on November 19, while Masar will take on DR Congo’s TZ Mazembe.
