2024 Calabar Cultural Carnival Flagged Off
The 2024 Calabar Cultural Carnival officially commenced with participation from nine states—Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Adamawa, Delta, Osun, and Ebonyi. Joining them were the 18 local councils of Cross River State, each presenting vibrant costumes and cultural performances.
At the Millennium Park flag-off ceremony in Calabar, Governor Bassey Otu encouraged participants to embrace the increased prizes this year as motivation to showcase their best talents. He described the cultural carnival as a highlight of the state’s annual festivities, noting that his administration had delivered on its promise to elevate the carnival’s offerings.
Carnival Commission Chairman Gabe Onah emphasized that the carnival not only celebrates Cross River’s rich heritage but also serves as a key driver of tourism. He explained, “Our shared prosperity, this year’s theme, reflects our community spirit and hospitality, which are the cornerstones of our culture and tourism.”
Zenith Bank Plc joined as an official sponsor, energizing the carnival with its commitment to community empowerment. Speaking at the event, the bank’s Group Managing Director, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, expressed pride in supporting the festival. She highlighted the alignment of the carnival with Zenith Bank’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects, such as the Zenith Youth Parade in Lagos.
Mary Ephraim-Egbas, CEO of Okhma Global Limited, praised Zenith Bank’s partnership, stating it fosters economic growth and strengthens ties within the Cross River community. She remarked, “Zenith Bank’s support showcases local talent and aligns with the festival’s mission of shared prosperity.”
With Zenith Bank’s backing, the 2024 Calabar Cultural Carnival promises an unforgettable celebration of creativity, unity, and cultural pride, embodying the spirit of shared prosperity.
