Eko Hot Blog reports that Scottish midfielder Todd Cantwell expressed his optimism about his partnership with Cyriel Dessers and hopes that Dessers’ impressive form can contribute to Glasgow Rangers’ success as they near the end of the 2023/24 season.
Following a slow start to his time in Scotland after transferring from Cremonese in Italy last summer, Dessers has endeared himself to fans, particularly after scoring a brace in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup against Hearts last Sunday.
His performance propelled the Gers into the final, where they will square off against eternal rivals Celtic United.
The two goals means Dessers, who scored just three goals in his first 20 matches, has now scored 19 goals and registered eight assists as Rangers look to win the league and cup titles.
With only five league games remaining to conclude the season, Rangers trail Celtic by three points, setting the stage for a showdown in the Scottish Cup final.
Cantwell remains optimistic that the chemistry he shares with the in-form Dessers can be instrumental in securing titles as they enter the crucial phase of the season.
“From one of his first training sessions, I think we realised we would be on the same page.
“Hopefully, we can get a bit of a run together now until the end of the season and get some goals and assists,” Cantwell said per Rangers Review.
Despite his underwhelming performance during the 2022/23 season with the Italian club, where he managed only 10 goals in 32 games across all competitions, Rangers still invested £4.5m to acquire the striker from relegated Cremonese.
Since then, the Nigerian has cemented his position as a key figure in Philippe Clement’s team and is expected to feature in all six remaining matches of the season, barring any injuries.
