Eko Hot Blog reports that the outgoing President of Secretariat Membership Club, Captain Gabriel Ade Ayeni, has not only reflected on the club’s achievements under his leadership but also set an inspiring tone for the incoming administration.
Captain Ayeni spoke on Sunday, January 28, 2024, during the 33rd Annual General Meeting of the club.
The meeting marked the conclusion of his four-year tenure, leading to the election and swearing-in of a new executive council, including the appointment of a new president, Bashorun Ayodeji Randle.
Captain Ayeni commenced his address by acknowledging the presence of esteemed members, the Patron, Chief Engineer Sylvanus Gbasarah(OFR), Trustees, Past Presidents, and outgoing executive members.
Expressing gratitude, he gave honour to the Almighty for making it possible for the club to witness its 33rd Annual General Meeting.
“I give all honour, glory, and adoration to the Almighty father who made it possible for us all to witness this great day; may his name forever be praised, Amen,” Captain Ayeni said.
While highlighting the challenges faced at the beginning of his administration, Captain Ayeni shared the remarkable accomplishment of liquidating a debt exceeding 100 million Naira.
“At the inception of this administration we were faced with very very daunting challenges especially in the area of acquisition and purchase of our club’s house which stood at a whopping amount of over 100 million but to God be glory not only did this administration liquidated the debt but we were able to add some other infrastructure and amenities including this our pavilion and conveniences which was named as ‘Chief Engineer Sylvanus Ghasarah pavilion,” the former Secretariat Membership Club president stated.
He acknowledged the unwavering support of the club’s patron, Chief Engineer Sylvanus Gbasarah (OFR), and the generous contributions from members, especially those who contributed a significant amount of N2.5 million and above.
Expressing gratitude, Captain Ayeni specifically recognized contributors such as Alhaji Monsuru Bisiriyu, Chief Femi Bisiriyu, Capt Wale Otubanjo, Captain Tokunbo Adekunbi, Captain Segun Omole, Alhaji Akin Akinboye(EPO), Barr. Tayo Laleye, and others.
He extended a heartfelt thank you, wishing blessings on those who contributed to the success of the club’s endeavours.
The outgoing president further emphasized the substantial improvement in the club’s membership drive, stressing the need to bring in young and dynamic individuals. He expressed concern about the current average age of members, which stands between 67 to 70 years, emphasizing the importance of succession planning.
“Worthy of note is the remarkable improvement in our membership drive. We expect it to keep improving by committing ourselves to bringing in young and dynamic individuals into our midst. This cannot be overemphasized, as the average age in our club today stands between 67 to 70 years; that’s not looking too good for our succession plans,” Captain Ayeni emphasized.
However, the highlight of his address was his call to carry the positive spirit into the new administration.
“As we step aside for the new administration to come in, may I crave your indulgence to let’s carry this beautiful spirit into the new administration, and together, we will move our club to the next level and achieve greatness,” he urged the members.
In a bid to ensure continuity and efficiency for the incoming administration, Captain Ayeni unveiled a renovated administration office.
He encouraged the new executive council to efficiently furnish the office and consider adding indoor games donated to the club earlier.
Captain Ayeni concluded his address by expressing gratitude for the honour to serve the club and conveying his best wishes for the Secretariat Membership Club, Lagos State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
As a new president emerges, the club anticipates continued growth and success under fresh leadership.
