Carabao Cup: Spurs Survive Late United Comeback To Seal Semi-Final Spot

Tottenham Hotspur weathered a late surge from Manchester United and overcame a series of their own costly errors to secure a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals in a dramatic encounter.

Ange Postecoglou’s side appeared to be cruising with a comfortable 3-0 lead midway through the second half, but two critical mistakes by goalkeeper Fraser Forster almost derailed their progress, allowing United to stage a spirited comeback.

The match began with an early Tottenham breakthrough as Dominic Solanke capitalized on an error by United’s keeper Altay Bayindir in the 15th minute. Spurs dominated a tightly contested first half, setting the stage for a lively second period.

Dejan Kulusevski doubled Tottenham’s lead immediately after the restart with a thunderous strike. Just minutes later, Solanke added his second goal in the 54th minute, seemingly ending United’s resistance and signaling a deflating night for the visitors, especially after their impressive derby win against Manchester City.

However, Forster’s nightmare began in the 63rd minute. His ill-fated attempt to pass out from the back was intercepted by Bruno Fernandes, who set up substitute Joshua Zirkzee for a simple finish. The error gave United renewed hope.

Another mishap followed seven minutes later when Forster hesitated under pressure, gifting Amad Diallo an easy opportunity to cut Tottenham’s lead to 3-2.

However, tensions eased for Spurs in the 88th minute when Son Heung-min’s corner sailed directly into the net, aided by poor positioning from Bayindir.

The drama wasn’t over yet. In injury time, Jonny Evans headed in United’s third goal, with Forster again at fault, but Spurs held firm to edge a chaotic match and advance to the next round.
