Catechist Caught Disposing Lover’s Body In Benue State

 

EKO HOT BLOG reports that tragedy struck in Benue State as a catechist from St. Martins Parish Mbape in Adikpo deanery, Kwande Local Government Area found himself on the run after the death of a young lady believed to be his lover.

The catechist, identified as Oliver Vershima, was apprehended on Sunday evening, June 4, 2023, while attempting to dispose of the woman’s lifeless body.

According to a local resident named Terhemba, Oliver, who was assigned to work at St. Augustine Zone in Jov Mbahura, had concealed the body of the deceased lady inside his room after she tragically lost her life during an attempted abortion.

Terhemba explained that upon questioning Oliver, it was revealed that he had impregnated the woman and together they had attempted to terminate the pregnancy. Unfortunately, their efforts led to the untimely death of the young woman.

Alleged victim

The catechist decided to hide the body in his room until nightfall, intending to transport it out of the village and potentially flee. However, his plans were foiled when he was caught in the act of carrying the body out of the village. In the ensuing chaos, Oliver managed to escape.

The identity of the deceased woman is yet to be ascertained, although it is known that she hailed from a neighboring community.

The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, stating that the corpse of the young girl, who had reportedly visited her male friend, was recovered and taken to the hospital morgue.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and the catechist’s involvement is ongoing.
