The Catholic Diocese of Awka has vowed to investigate the alleged assault of a female teacher, Mrs. Ikeorah Maureen, by Rev. Fr. Jude Muokwe, the Manager of Angel Primary School, Ifitedunu.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that according to a statement released by the Diocese’s Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Charles Ndubuisi, the church regrets the incident, which reportedly took place on February 12.
The Diocese assured the public that it upholds ethical standards in its schools and will take appropriate disciplinary action if necessary.
Reports indicate that the 50-year-old widow was allegedly flogged and slapped by Muokwe over claims of insubordination. Sources say the altercation happened after Maureen and other teachers held a meeting to discuss salary increases. Muokwe allegedly stormed the meeting, accused Maureen of organizing it, and physically assaulted her.
Eyewitnesses claim that the priest inflicted visible injuries on the teacher during the attack. The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for justice and better treatment of teachers in mission schools.
The Diocese emphasized that it does not tolerate misconduct and promised to investigate the extent of the violation. The outcome of the probe will determine what disciplinary measures will be taken against the accused cleric.
