Laing congratulated President Buhari on his successful eight years in office, saying he had done very well to hold the country together. She also commended the UK for cooperation on many fronts, particularly in the rebuilding of the North East, hitherto ravaged by insurgency. Laing further revealed that she had visited over 20 states in Nigeria during her tour of duty and urged her successor to do the same.
In his response, President Buhari expressed his appreciation to the UK for its support and cooperation with Nigeria, stating that the UK was a second home for many Nigerians, and the relationship between the two countries will continue to flourish. He also praised the UK for its assistance in the rebuilding of the North East, which has been devastated by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The President revealed that he looks forward to retiring to his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, after handing over power on May 29. He emphasized that he would be as far away from Abuja as possible after his retirement.
