Celebrating Mother General Iyabode Olumade As Family Announces Funeral Plans

There aren’t many indices to use and judge the true worth of a man’s life; but from whatever direction one approaches this measurement from, will always boil down to the impact and firm imprints made during one’s lifetime.

This is why there is no gainsaying in appraising the life of (Dr.) Mother General Esther Iyabode Olumade (JP) as a life well spent.

Born to late Ayinke Giwa (popularly known as Iya Lefi) and late Gbadamosi Shodeinde (both natives of Ikorodu, Lagos, South-west Nigeria) on October 29, 1937, Mother General Esther Iyabode was a businesswoman, fashion designer and a devout woman of God. Her devotion to the faith is indexed by an unyielding pursuit of the ministry of reconciliation and service to humanity.

On the domestic front, she was an exemplar both as a mother and as a wife, a fact which was well buttressed by her loyalty to her late husband and the love and kindness she showed to her children and family members alike.

Her devotion to her family (both immediate and extended) will no doubt remain indelible in the hearts of those who met her. Her unwavering faith and belief in God were her source of inspiration and support in her final moments on earth, as she battled a malignant illness. She was no doubt “Mother Courage” of our time.

As a champion of faith which she was, she was building a church for the Lord and had just finished roofing before she passed on to glory. The church would be handed over to Christ Spiritual Church (Mount Horeb) C & S, Mafoluku, Oshodi, where she worshipped all her life, to continue with the legacy.

Having been opportune to travel to different parts of the globe; notably Jerusalem, the United States, England and Canada, Mother General Iyabode was a well versed and accomplished woman whose commitment to the cause of humanity had brought her before the warm threshold of Kings and Queens all over the world.

This is why come Saturday February 20, 2021, friends and family of Mother General Esther Iyabode Olumade will come out en masse, not to mourn her death, but to unite and celebrate a life well spent, not merely because our late Mother Courage had crossed the average life expectancy of 70 years, but in view of her numerous accomplishments and accolades while here on earth.

For the purpose of adding the requisite resplendence and colour to the occasion, her family has announced the availability of aso-ebi (traditional uniform) for the funeral. Interested persons are enjoined to make payment to Olufunmilayo Olumade GTB acct number 0122692131 and send payment slip with “Name to +14168020468 via WhatsApp. Deadline for payment and confirmation of attendance is Sunday, January 10, 2021.
