Birthdays are special days to reflect upon how far one has come and set new goals for the future. They are also unique days to celebrate people who have positively contributed to our society. Mrs. Olayinka Saidat Oladunjoye, an attorney, is one of those people. Besides enjoying numerous achievements in her personal life, she has distinguished herself as a valuable public servant who has effected positive changes.
Little wonder, Rep. Wale Raji, a member of the House of Representatives for Epe Federal Constituency, described her as a “woman of hard work, dedication, and principle.”
“You have exhibited that rare combination of a simple and modest lifestyle coupled with an ambitious and grand vision for our dear party [APC],” the lawmaker wrote in a birthday message to Mrs. Oladunjoye.
Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye is a year older today, May 6, 2023. She is currently the Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Lagos East Senatorial District, which covers the Epe Division, where she was born into the family of Chief Stephen Olaitan Anwoju family of Epe, Lagos.
Before the celebrant’s successful venture into politics, she spent a few years in the classroom, where she imparted knowledge to numerous children who have gone on to do amazing things. She obtained a B. A History degree with 2nd class (Upper Division) from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 1981. In pursuit of her dream to become a lawyer, she returned to UNILAG, where she earned an L.L.B degree with 2nd class (Upper Division) between 1991 and 1997. She later proceeded to the Nigerian law school, Abuja, and was called to bar in 1999.
Before Mrs. Oladunjoye studied law, she was a Graduate Assistant with the Department of History at UNILAG in 1983. She was also a Classroom Teacher at Gbagada Comprehensive High School, Lagos, between 1983 and 1985.
She joined the Lagos State Ministry of Youths, Sports and Social Development as a Sports Officer/Project Officer in 1987-1990 and has worked in various Ministries like the Ministry of Finance 1990-1995 as a Research Officer and Lagos State Public Works Department as Senior Administrative Officer in 1995 before leaving for the private sector, where she rose to the level of a CEO/Executive Director of an Insurance firm.
The celebrant’s many years of hard work were rewarded with her appointment as the Commissioner for Education, Lagos State, during the second term of former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola. As commissioner, she served with merit and took giant strides that helped to reform the educational sector in Lagos.
Notably, various laws were passed to regulate the educational system. Some of those laws include: admission of students into secondary schools had to be based on a 50% minimum requirement in the student’s continuous assessment. This policy ensured that only academically qualified people were admitted into junior secondary schools. Further laws were enacted to ensure that schools meet up to relevant standards.
Outside of the public sector, Mrs. Oladunjoye enjoyed considerable success in the private sector. She has professional qualifications which include Associate, Chartered Insurance Institute of London (ACCI London), 1994; Chartered Insurer, Chartered Insurance Institute of London (ACCII London), 1996; Associate, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), 1997; Member, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), 1999, and Associate, Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (ACIB), 2004.

Since her election as the APC vice chairman in Lagos East, she has been instrumental in leading the party to victory in all elections. Besides being an achiever, she is undoubtedly a winner and a valuable team player.
