Celebrating Philanthropist And Grassroots Political Icon Hon. Olusegun Olulade At 52

For many politicians, politics is a means to simply enrich themselves and has little to do with helping people who voted them into office. But for some politicians, politics is about empowering the grassroots and making them seen by their government. Hon. Olusegun Olulade, popularly known as Eleniyan (Man of the People), is a member of the latter group.

Therefore, such politicians like Hon. Olulade, a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, deserve to be celebrated whenever the opportunity presents itself. The former lawmaker turned 52 on Thursday, July 20, 2023, and we can’t miss the opportunity to celebrate him.

EDITOR’S PICKS

The former lawmaker representing Epe Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly boasts a charming charisma that is not matched by many in politics today. His ability to mobilise people across socio-economic strata of the society for political and development purposes is well-acknowledged. His mega empowerment programmes still resonate across Epe years after leaving office.

As a lawmaker, Hon. Olulade bonded with the grassroots, thanks to the projects and services he attracted to the villages and hinterlands of Epe. For example, he celebrated his birthday with children from the Home of God’s Grace Orphanage in 2017 and showered them with gifts. Beyond his community, he was an active member of the state legislative house, serving as the Chairman, House Committee on Information, during his time in office.

The Epe politician’s eloquence and charisma were always on full display when he served as the Lagos assembly spokesperson. Besides being an effective image maker for the House, the former two-term lawmaker was a friend to reporters in the Lagos State Assembly complex.

Hon. Olusegun Olulade (Eleniyan)

Despite recently losing out in his bid to represent Epe in the House of Representatives, Hon. Olulade has stayed true to his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasising his admirable loyalty to causes he believe in.

His sense of loyalty, humility, and hospitality has earned him many influential friends, including the Alara of Ilara, Oba (Dr.) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, who had many good things to say about him at his 50th birthday celebration in August 2021. The monarch said Hon. Olulade always struck him as a respectful and humble young man. He noted that Eleniyan was first his brother and then his son.

Away from the public eye, Hon. Olulade is a dedicated husband and father as his wife once testified to it. The former lawmaker’s wife, Mrs. Mosunmola Olulade, describes her husband as a selfless, upright, loving, and Godfearing person.

Her words: “It’s not because he is my husband, but I can tell you I have never met anyone so upright, sincere, selfless, loving, giving. Segun puts every other person before himself. In the home, he’s such a wonderful father. With the kids, he often turns himself into a kid too and plays with them.”
