Celebrating The Life And Legacy Of Helen Agbeke Smith – A Woman Of Faith, Entrepreneurship And Love

In the heart of Lagos, a matriarch, Helen Omotunde Agbeke Smith, born on June 25, 1954, bid farewell to the world, leaving behind a legacy marked by strength, resilience, and an indomitable spirit.

Born into the embrace of Babajide Henry Smith and Sidikat Smith, Omotunde’s journey traversed faith, education, entrepreneurship, and familial bonds.

Her educational odyssey began at St Mary Primary School, propelling her to further enlightenment at Molusi College in Ijebu Igbo.

Beyond the academia, her entrepreneurial spirit blossomed, leading her on a global journey to procure textiles, later becoming a notable presence in Ereko Market. Venturing into footwear, she carved a niche for herself in Balogun Market.

More than an astute businesswoman, Omotunde wore the hats of a caring mother, daughter, and sister.

Her philanthropic endeavors touched countless lives, reflecting her compassionate nature. Deepening her spiritual roots, she found purpose at Christ Redemption Church in Ogba (CRC), eventually being ordained as an Evangelist in December 1999.

In 2007, a divine revelation propelled her to establish her ministry and church. Despite initial skepticism, she laid the foundation and completed the church in 2012, becoming a spiritual beacon.

Blessed with six children and eleven grandchildren, Omotunde’s family extended beyond bloodlines to include a network of relatives and friends who became family. Her daily prayers echoed a mother’s unwavering love, seeking protection and prosperity for each cherished individual.

Beyond familial roles, Omotunde was a vibrant socialite, a life-wire in the Molusi Old Students Association, where she earned the moniker of an energetic soldier. Her love for fashion became a trademark, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her.

Yesterday, January 19, 2024, Omotunde Helen Agbeke was laid to rest, surrounded by her six children and eleven grandchildren, alongside her church family from Christ Redemption Church.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, her memory lives on in the hearts of those who were touched by her love, faith, and enduring spirit. Farewell, dear Omotunde – though you are away from us, you are now even closer to God.
