Eko Hot Blog reports that HRM Oba Owolabi Adeshina Adeniyi (Maforunyomi 1), the Oba of Igbobi Sabe, Lagos State, on Sunday, December 10, 2023, celebrated his remarkable 10th year coronation anniversary at the Federal Science and Technical College ground in Yaba, Lagos.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries and royal figures, including the representation of Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu by Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Bolaji Kayode Robert, former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola and his wife.
Others are Chief Host, Hon. Dr. Kayode Adejare Omiyale, Royal Father of the Day, HRM Oba Fatai Oyeyinka Aromire, Chairman of the Occasion, Chief Dr. Kolawole Akinyele Oladeji, HRM Oba Babatunde Olaogun Ogunlaja, HRM Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, and many others.
The festivities kicked off with Oba Adeniyi expressing gratitude and welcoming the dignitaries and well-wishers.
“I want to thank God, the one who knew a day like this would come, as he said in the Bible, ‘I knew thee before you were formed in your mother’s womb.’ He knew kings, people we invited would be seated here today, and he didn’t allow any barrier to put a stop to our gathering today. I thank everyone,” the monarch said.
He took time to appreciate some special people and all who have supported him and made his administration easy.
Oba Adeniyi also specially eulogized his wife and prayed for Governor Sanwo-Olu, President Bola Tinubu, and those present.
Speaking with Eko Hot Blog, the royal father disclosed the feeling celebrating his 10th year coronation anniversary without any disruption.
“I feel so good, when your parents celebrate your birthday for you, you will be happy and now that I’m celebrating myself, I am more than happy. The event this week of celebration is kind of tedious but when you do things with gladness you won’t feel it,” he told our correspondent.
“We’ve drawn the timetable for many months and planning how it was going to be and we thank God that no evil disrupt our plans.”
He also delved briefly into the history of Igbobi Sabe and his part in reviving the almost lost cultural heritage of the kingdom, the Gelede.
Earlier, Hon. Omiyale, in his welcome address, acknowledged all present dignitaries and appreciated the king for enhancing the kingdom and also promoting Yoruba culture by bringing back to life the Gelede.
He likewise stated the benefits the kingdom enjoys with the presence of the federal government.
“What we are doing today is to celebrate our father for the good 10 years he has spent on the royal stool. And this celebration is also about promoting and enhancing our Yoruba culture and traditions. We have many exciting cultures, but the one we are doing today is to let people know about our culture,” the anniversary’s chief host stated.
“Our father, since he assumed the throne, has been working assiduously to make sure our culture is in its rightful place, and on Tuesday, he unveiled the Gelede. I believe, by God’s power, with the king on his throne, the kingdom of Yaba will keep soaring high. Yaba Kingdom has always been on top since the colonial era.
“This is because when the colonial masters came, they settled down here in Yaba. That’s why most of the streets have European names.
“With God’s grace, we enjoy the presence of many federal government educational institutions and health facilities. With all these, it’s very important to add and promote our culture, which our king is doing.”
As the celebration unfolded, various dignitaries took turns, sharing heartfelt goodwill messages to honour the decade-long reign of Oba Adeniyi.
As attendees feasted and enjoyed the awesome music from the live band, the monarch and his wife moved to the dancefloor. Well-wishers joyfully joined them, creating a heartwarming display of love and celebration, symbolizing the unity and joy within the community.
The event concluded with a vibrant tribute to the legacy and contributions of Oba Adeniyi to the Yaba community.
