No Plans To Hold Census In 2025 - NPC Denies Reports
  • Presidency dismisses media criticism, says committee members were chosen based on merit and relevance.
  • Members include key officials from finance, planning, identity management, and information sectors.
  • Committee tasked with developing a strategy within three weeks to ensure a successful national census.

The Presidency has responded to media criticism of the new committee formed for the upcoming national population census. It described the complaints as “funny and baseless.”

Segun Dada, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, shared on his X (Twitter) page that all committee members were selected because of the important roles they play in ensuring a successful census.

He explained that aside from the President’s Principal Secretary, who is there to represent the President, all the other members hold positions that are essential to planning and running a proper census.

The committee members include:

Chairman: Senator Atiku Bagudu – Minister of Budget and National Planning

Secretary: Mallam Nasir Isa Kwarra – Chairman, National Population Commission

Engr. Abisoye Odusote – Director-General, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)

Wale Edun – Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy

Zacch Adedeji – Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)

Hakim Muri-Okunola – Principal Secretary to the President

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration and Operations

Dada questioned why people were upset, asking which of these members doesn’t have a key role in making the census work.

He added that the committee only has three weeks to work and is meant to create a strategy that brings together Nigeria’s financial, identity, and communication resources to support a successful census.

He asked Nigerians to support the effort and not be discouraged by doubts that have slowed progress in the past.

“This might be the best census Nigeria has ever had,” Dada said, “and we should not let unnecessary criticism get in the way.”
