Champions League Hostilities: Winners And Loosers
  • The Champions League Quarter-Finals reaches its conclusion.

  • The likes of Chelsea, Napoli, Bayern Munich and Benfica have been eliminated.

  • The semi-final however promises climatic battles between Real Madrid and Manchester City as well as a Milan derby.

EKO HOT BLOG reports on the turn out of the Champions League fixtures following the conclusion of the quarter-final round of games.

The fixtures as promised provided fans with the spectacle the world has come to know of it, with the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid going head to head in a tussle for a place in the semi-final.

However in the case of the Blues, the damage was done to them in Madrid when they allowed themselves to concede quick fire goals from Karim Benzema and  Marco Asensio in the first leg. The return leg despite the West London side putting up a performance, saw the current champions play their cards right to eliminate Chelsea from the competition in an eventual 0-2 win at Stanford Bridge.

The winner despite being Real Madrid, had a lot to say about Rodrygo who netted a brace in Tuesday night’s fixture.

Napoli who started the competition in full flare ultimately fell to 7 times champions AC Milan in a dragged out 1-1 score line. Milan however had the advantage of a 1-0 win in the first leg.

Though AC Milan ran out winners, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen won on the night as he returned to the team to score Napoli’s only goal in the quarter-final.

Wednesday’s fixture however have Manchester City a chance to seal a berth in the semi-final against Real Madrid after overcoming Bayern Munich 1-1 on the night but 1-4 on aggregate with Erling Haaland netting the lone goal on the night for City against Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Tuchel though counts his loss as he was sent to the stands after receiving double yellow cards on the touch line.

Inter Milan after dragging out what became an eventual 3-3 draw, were able to eliminate Portuguese side, Benfica to set up a meeting with Milan rivals, AC Milan for a Milan derby.

Once more the Champions League lives to its promise.
