EKO HOT BLOG reports that Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, was declared winner of the Anambra Governorship election held on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
While the APGA’s elected candidate is not new to politics, many people are unfamiliar with him and his political journey.
We’ve compiled a list of 23 things people should know about Anambra State’s newly elected governor based on this notion.

Below are 23 quick facts about the new Anambra State Governor-elect.
1. Soludo hails from Isuanioma which is within the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
2. Soludo is 61 years old, having been born on 28 February, 1960
3. Soludo lost his mother at a tender age. However, the loss did not stop the young lad from doing excellently well in his studies and his flair for academics would eventually see him do his mother’s memory proud a few years after her death.
4. He was chairman of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
5. On 29 May, 2004, Soludo was named governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
6. Soludo is a Nigerian Professors of Economics.
7. He has been a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund, the University of Cambridge, the Brookings Institution, the University of Warwick, and the University of Oxford as well as a visiting professor at Swarthmore College (USA)
8. He obtained his three degrees and then professorship at the University of Nigeria in Nsukka, Enugu State.
9. Soludo graduated with a First Class Honours degree in 1984, an MSc Economics in 1987, and a Ph.D in 1989, winning prizes for the best student at all three levels.
10. He was appointed to the position of professor of economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1998.
11. Soludo held the positions of Chief Economic Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Chief Executive of the National Planning Commission of Nigeria.
12. On 16 September, 2019, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, appointed Soludo as a member of a newly formed 8-member Economic Advisory Council (EAC) which would report directly to the President.
13. He announced his aspiration to become Anambra Governor in September 2009, he contested under PDP and lost the election to Peter Obi of APGA.

14. In February 2021, Soludo officially declared his intention to run for the position of Governor of Anambra State under the banner of APGA.
15. Soludo is married to Mrs Nonye Soludo and they have been blessed with six children.
16. Professor Soludo has authored and co-authored several books, most of which lay emphasis on multi-country macro-econometric modelling, techniques of computable general equilibrium modelling, survey methodology, and panel data econometrics, etc.
17. Soludo championed the establishment of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), a continental, private -sector driven, investment bank.
18. Professor Soludo is the recipient of a plethora of awards and recognitions from various institutions and organisations. Most notable amongst these is the recognition by the Financial Times of London, as a ‘Great Reformer’.
Also highly noteworthy is his winning of the ‘Global and African Central Bank Governor of the Year, in 2005, 2006 and 2007 by different international media institutions including The Banker Magazine which is published by the Financial Times of London. In 2006, he received a Global Banker’s Award in London.
19. Soludo has been conferred with Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) – Nigeria’s third-highest national honour.
20. Soludo is a member of the International Advisory Group for the UK Department for International Development (DFID). He is also a member of the Chief Economist Advisory Council of the World Bank, as well as a member of the Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD). Soludo is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and a fellow of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES). He is also a member of the British Department for International Development’s International Advisory Group.
21. The former CBN governor has a D.SC (Honoris Causa) from the University of Calabar and the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
