EKO HOT BLOG reports that Chelsea has ramped up their transfer ambitions this summer under Todd Boehly’s ownership with the cash being splashed after the arrival of Marc Cucurella and Carney Chukwuemeka this week.
Chelsea still has plans to sign three more players before the summer transfer window comes to a close at the end of the month.
Todd Boehly promised Thomas Tuchel that he would splash the cash and initially told him to expect six new players to mark his first month as the new owner of the Blues. But that number could grow after a busy week in west London.
Marc Cucurella is the latest signing at Stamford Bridge after joining from Brighton in a deal that could be worth £62million.
And the Spaniard has arrived shortly after the shock transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa in a move that blindsided everyone.
Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly arrived earlier in the summer and there were worries that Chelsea might not be ready for the new Premier League season after being battered by Arsenal 4-0. But that appears to have woken up Boehly, who wants to bring in three more players.
The new Chelsea owner had promised six signings to Tuchel earlier in the summer and has just brought in his dourth so far.
However, with a further three transfers planned, that would take the total tally to seven new arrivals.
Wesley Fofana appears to the next target on Tuchel’s wish list as he is desperate to sign one more defender before the end of the month. The loss of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen has left the Blues light at the back but Leicester are not playing ball.
A bid of £60million was rejected outright for the Frenchman but Chelsea are expected to return with an improved offer. While the clubs are nearly £20m out from their valuations, the Foxes are in financial trouble and might have to sell one of their top stars this summer.
Another move that could surprise everyone is that of Frenkie de Jong, who Manchester United are hellbent on signing. The Barcelona star does not appear to be too keen on dropping into the Europa League this season.
It has allowed Chelsea to steal in, who can offer Barcelona the money they want and De Jong the Champions League football he craves. Erik ten Hag might be left empty-handed soon if they cannot convince the Dutchman on an Old Trafford switch with the Blues benefitting.
And the final arrival might be the biggest shock of them all after Barca offered Chelsea the chance to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Just six months after leaving Arsenal, the Gabon international could be back in the Premier League to rekindle his relationship with Tuchel, who he worked wonders with at Borussia Dortmund.
It is no secret that Chelsea are after another finisher as they look to up their goal tally from last season while the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi have been linked with moves away. With Barca keen on some quick cash, a switch is on the cards in a move that could benefit all parties.
