Chelsea Were Robbed – Ex Premier League Referee Says
  • Another Premier League fixture goes down with a controversial decision reportedly determining the outcome of the result.

  • In the London mini-derby between Chelsea FC and West Ham United, Chelsea were denied a penalty within the closing stages of the match, with the score sitting at 1-1.

  • Former EPL referee Peter Walton states the call should have been a penalty.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the recent English Premier League match between Chelsea and West Ham United saw a controversial decision not to award a penalty to the former in the dying moments of the game.

Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher took a shot from outside the box, which was blocked by West Ham’s Tomas Soucek. The Chelsea players surrounded the referee, Robert Jones, and called for a penalty, but their pleas were not heeded.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team, led by David Coote and Nick Smith, was consulted, but the decision not to award a penalty still stood. This has led to heated debates and discussions among fans and experts alike.

EDITOR’S PICKS

One such expert is former referee, Peter Walton, who spoke to BT Sport about the incident.

He stated:

“When Soucek goes down there, you can clearly see his arm go down. Is his arm down there to prevent him from hitting the ground or is his arm there to block the ball? My opinion is if it hasn’t been given, he’s got away with it. I think that’s a penalty kick.”

Walton’s comments have further added to the discussion and sparked more debate about the use of VAR in football and its effectiveness in making accurate and fair decisions.

The incident highlights the need for better clarity and consistency in decision-making, especially in high-stakes matches.
