At the time of her rescue, Lydia was five months pregnant, and she claimed to be from Pemi Town in Chibok LGA, the same area where the original abduction took place.

The rescue of Lydia Simon comes as the nation commemorates the 10th anniversary of the abduction of 276 girls from the Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, on April 14, 2014. While 57 of the girls escaped in the days following the abduction, 16 were later rescued, and 107 were released through negotiations over the years.
