Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque, Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar, dies at 80 after brief illness in Jos hospital.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque in Plateau State, Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar, has passed away at the age of 80 after battling a brief illness at a private hospital in Jos.
His son, Bashir Lawal Adam, confirmed this unfortunate development in a statement released on Thursday.
Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar, revered for his spiritual leadership and community service, leaves behind a legacy that spans generations. Survived by three wives, 14 children, and a host of grandchildren, he was a pillar of support and wisdom within the Muslim community.
Sani Mudi, the Plateau State Publicity Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the profound impact Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar had on fostering unity and religious understanding in the state.
His passing marks a significant moment of mourning and reflection for the Muslim community in Plateau State.
In a condolence message on Thursday, Mudi said, “The late Sheikh Adam was an erudite scholar, Islamic jurist, renowned Qur’anic scholar, and a respected leader of the Muslim community. He was appointed Deputy Chief Imam in 2009 and later Chief Imam in 2015.”
The statement further noted that the reverend cleric would be laid to rest on Friday morning after funeral prayers.
