The growing number of assaults and accidents has become a constant worry. A safe and secure atmosphere in school makes way for an effective teaching and learning environment.
Raising awareness to this :FOR THE LOVE OF CHILDREN KIDDIESDOM ( a child safety organisations flagged off a campaign over the weekend to feel the gap observed in the consciousness of child safety in the society.
It has been observed that most care givers don’t implement the appropriate safety measures for children in their care.
FOR THE LOVE OF CHILDREN KIDDIESDOM organised this program to raise safety awareness which cannot be over emphasized.
At this time, when measures can be taken proactively to ensure safety of children in schools and yet all these avoidable accidents are still happening, it is important to start having conversations about school safety.
Commenting on the issue Mrs. Ifechukwu Enweani convener of ‘making of a safe school’ spoke on active measure that can be implemented. She said;
“A safe school is one where there is intentional effort to make a learning environment free of hazards, have thought out response measures for potential emergency scenarios and provide a positive atmosphere that fully nurtures a child’s psychosocial development”.
“Children spend more time in school than they do with their parents. In as it is extreme saying every short coming of a child is from the school, it is understandable to owe a child’s attitude in correlation to where they spend most of their time”.
In addition, it is the duty of care for every child care provider to optimally care for a child in their custody. However, it is parents that should be the core guardians of a child and should be held responsible regardless.
Mrs. Ifechukwu Enweani futher emphasized that after the program, it is expected that parents, school owners and teachers will learn safety standards expected of schools so that children can return home in one piece.
Parents will also know safety measures to look out for while selecting schools. In addition, participants were trained on basic Paediatric First Aid skills.
For the Love of Children is a child safety awareness programme aimed at educating parents and child-care providers on child safety issues to ensure children are free from avoidable harm and injury.
The program also welcomed questions from parents and educators on how they could prevent and respond to child abuse especially in school system, first aid training was also provided for participants in attendance.
