James Faleke, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, urges Nigerians to combat the cholera outbreak with the same seriousness as COVID-19, as NCDC reports 53 deaths and 1,528 suspected cases nationwide.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, James Faleke, urged Nigerians to address the cholera outbreak in parts of the country with the same seriousness they applied to the Coronavirus pandemic. Faleke emphasized this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos State on Monday.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), 53 deaths from cholera have been reported recently across Nigeria. NCDC Director-General, Dr. Jide Idris, stated that the Federal Government had activated the National Emergency Operation Centre for cholera. He reported, “As of June 24, 2024, there have been 1,528 suspected cases and 53 deaths recorded across 31 states and 107 LGAs, with a case fatality rate of 3.5% since the year began.”

Faleke stressed the need for Nigerians to take proactive measures against the cholera outbreak, stating, “Every Nigerian must be vigilant; our hygiene practices are crucial. We must tackle this cholera outbreak with the same seriousness as we did with COVID-19.”

He added, “Cholera has claimed many lives. In this modern era, we shouldn’t be facing a cholera outbreak in Nigeria. Nonetheless, it has occurred, and we must confront it. People should be cautious about what they consume.”

“There are many fake products out there. Stop taking fake products. You don’t have to drink anything, take clean water,” he advised.
