  • He joined Ajax following a standout 2022/23 season with Middlesbrough.

Editor’s Pick

Although it has only been a year since Chuba Akpom left England for the Netherlands, the Super Eagles hopeful is already being linked with a return.

Several unnamed clubs are reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

Akpom enjoyed an outstanding 2022/23 season with Middlesbrough, scoring an impressive 28 league goals in 38 matches and nearly leading them back to the Premier League.

He became one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe before eventually joining Ajax for a fee believed to be around €12 million.

After a challenging start in Amsterdam, Akpom has shown flashes of brilliance, scoring 15 goals and providing three assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

The 28-year-old’s statistics are even more impressive given that he started only nine of those 35 matches.

However, according to Soccernews, Goodijk stated that Akpom would not accept a bench role next season.

Hence, he is open to offers to leave Ajax during the next transfer window.

“I don’t think he will accept sitting on the bench. Certainly not if serious clubs come for him, which I expect,” he was quoted as saying by Soccernews.

“It could easily take until August when the Premier League clubs start to panic a bit.

“Then they all have it on the list. If he can be picked up for €15m.
