Nigerian footballer, Samuel Chukwueze, has been ranked as Africa’s most valuable U-20 player in Europe’s top five leagues.
The ranking was done by CIES Football Observatory and according to the study by the Swiss-based organization, the Nigeria international is worth €35 million, which makes him the 12th most expensive U-20 player on the planet based on transfer market valuations.
The youngster, who turns out for Spanish top flight club, Villareal, is currently at the centre of a raging battle between the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF which wants him included in Nigeria squad for the forthcoming U-20 World Cup and Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, who wants Chukwueze to be part of African Nations Cup plans.
The 50 players on the list have been ranked according to their age, position, performance, contract duration, full international and other factors. At €150.3m, Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho is the most valuable U20 player, followed by Arsenal’s Mattéo Guendouzi (€70m) and AS Roma’s Nicolò Zaniolo (€67m).
Chukwueze, who delivered some exciting performances in matches against the biggest clubs in La Liga including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico among others, is rumoured to be on the verge of a big-money move away from the club this summer.
