Atletico Madrid sign Julian Alvarez from Manchester City for a record £81.5 million, including add-ons.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Atletico Madrid have finalized an agreement with Manchester City to acquire forward Julian Alvarez for a record-breaking £81.5 million.
This fee includes an initial payment of £64.4 million, with potential add-ons totaling £17.1 million.
This transfer surpasses Manchester City’s previous record sale, set when Chelsea bought Raheem Sterling for £50 million in 2022.
Julian Alvarez, who planned to decide on his future after Argentina’s participation in the 2024 Olympics, was part of the team that was eliminated by hosts France last Friday. Despite Pep Guardiola’s wish to keep the 24-year-old forward, Alvarez has been considering his options.
Manchester City has maintained a policy of allowing players to leave if they choose, similar to situations involving Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez, and Aymeric Laporte.
In addition to Alvarez, Atletico Madrid has also secured a deal for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. They are now negotiating personal terms with Alvarez.
Alvarez, who joined Manchester City in 2022 from River Plate for £14.1 million, has scored 36 goals in 106 appearances for the club. He played a crucial role in City’s treble-winning season and was a significant contributor to Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup victory in Qatar.
