CJN Walter Onnoghen closes defence as CCT adjourns the case to April 15th
Suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen has closed his defence in his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Onnoghen is standing trial over allegations of fraudulent declaration of assets. After a comprehensive look at his defence at the resumed hearing of the matter on Wednesday, Chris Uche (SAN), counsel to Onnoghen, said he would like to close his defence.
Danladi Umar, the Chairman of the tribunal, therefore adjourned the matter till April 15, 2019, for the parties to adopt their written addresses and for the court to fix a date for judgement.
Umar said that the three applications pending before the tribunal challenging its jurisdiction, and the application to recuse himself, would be ruled on. On Monday, Onnoghen had said he would call two or three witnesses, but he only ended up calling one.
