Coach Calls For Modern Facilities To Develop Sports In Enugu

The Coach of Enugu State Kick Boxing Association, Dr Vitus Oti, has called on the state and local governments to invest in modern facilities to accelerate sports development in the state.

Oti made the call in an interview with newsmen in Enugu on Friday, saying that the absence of modern facilities and local competitions in the state was affecting the performance of athletes in national competitions.

He said that the state could only do well when the necessary sports facilities were put place for athletes to train with.

He called for greater collaboration between the state government and sports administrators to fashion out the best way to develop sports in the state.

Oti further appealed to the state government to organise refresher courses, workshops and training for coaches and sports associations to equip them with modern ideas in sports.

He said that the Presidential Task Force on the nation’s Sports Festival was working with the relevant health authorities and committees on the best way forward.

He said that COVID-19 pandemic halted sporting activities globally with the resultant postponement of major competitions.

The coach said that sports authorities in the country were strategising for the gradual return of sporting events without exposing the athletes to the risk of contracting the virus.
