Community Blocks Government House Over Leadership Crisis In Anambra

– The people of Ezinator Community in  Anambra have staged a peaceful protest at the state Government House 

– The people protested against what they called town union crisis

– According to them, the community was lagging behind in so many things in the state

The people of Ezinator Community in Awka South local government area of Anambra state have blocked the gate of Government House over town union crisis.

They alleged that some people in their area who claimed to be close to the State Government had postponed the town union election three times, adding that the situation had become embarrassing and worrisome to them.

Ekohotblog.com gathered that it was a peaceful protest security operatives blocked them from crossing the Government House gate.

The protesters, numbering over 100 including the women, the aged and the Youths were led by one of their High Chiefs, William Onwu.

Some of their placards read: “Governor Obiano please help us in the hands of tyrants in our community, we are peace loving people like our Governor, we will keep supporting your administration, they have postponed our election three times without any reason ” among others.”

The leader of the protesters, Chief, William Onwu, said the community would want the town union election held on October 7th, 2019 to appease them, having postponed it three times without any reason.

He said: “We have held our youths for so long and if this election fails to hold, sincerely speaking, no body should be blamed on what the outcome will be at the end.”

He further alleged that the whereabouts of the community’s N40 million choose your project from the Governor was still missing till date, adding that the community was lagging behind in so many things in the state.

However, Governor Willie Obiano, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Chieftaincy and Town Union Affairs, Lady Vera Okonkwo, assured them of amicable settlement.

She said the governor, being a peace- loving person, would not want his subjects engaged in any destructive behavior.

He commended the community on their comportment without resorting to violence.

According to Okonkwo, “We are going to make sure that the election is held in your community, this government will make that no one is favoured.

”Our Governor is one who believes in democratic process and therefore will not like to do anything that will bring rancour and violence in his state. We thank you for your peaceful conduct.”
