Confront Wike Directly, He’s Not Untouchable – Deji Adeyanju Tells Fubara
Nigerian activist Deji Adeyanju has advised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to boldly confront his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Adeyanju stated that there is nothing Fubara can do to make Wike back down, describing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister as a totalitarian figure who does not believe in compromise. He made these remarks during a press conference in Abuja on Friday, as reported by Naija News.
According to Adeyanju, the key to resolving the ongoing crisis in Rivers State is for Fubara to challenge Wike directly. He argued that Wike’s refusal to accept any middle ground has created an impasse.
“There’s nothing Fubara can do that will make Wike back down. He’s a totalitarian who doesn’t believe in compromise,” Adeyanju said. “Wike will not shift, but the governor has been compromising repeatedly. The solution is for Fubara to confront him head-on. Wike doesn’t like being challenged, and once you challenge him, he gets jittery and starts speaking recklessly.”
Adeyanju also emphasized the legal precedent that supports Fubara’s stance, referencing the Supreme Court ruling that people who defect from a political party lose their seat. He criticized the lower court ruling on the matter and urged Fubara to take a firm stand.
“Fubara should stop fearing him. Wike is not a god. This god complex Wike has, where he believes his words are supreme, is what fuels the issue,” Adeyanju added. “The same way Wike treated those who supported him is how he will treat Tinubu. Tinubu will not be an exception.”
He also questioned Wike’s self-perceived authority within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), suggesting that if Wike truly held such power, he should have made himself the PDP presidential candidate.
“If I went to beg Wike, as he claimed in his interview, then it means he’s the oracle of the PDP. So why couldn’t he make himself the presidential candidate of the party if he holds such control over it?” Adeyanju challenged.
