Confusion in Edo as APC, Edo Govt Disagree Over Dislodging Of Ize-Iyamu’s Campaign Posters
The Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the destruction of its billboards and campaign posters by the members of the opposition party.
The party made its stand known at a press conference on Saturday in Benin where it accused the Edo State Government of masterminding the attacks.
The Vice-Chairman on Media and Publicity of the APC National Campaign Council, Patrick Obahiagbon, who disclosed this to reporters, described the move as a terrible escalation of abuse of office and neglect for the rule of Law by Godwin Obaseki administration.
He contended that the state government embarked on the destruction and removal of APC’s billboards at various strategic points in the capital city of Benin on Thursday.

Obaihiagbon equally blamed Governor Obaseki of unnecessarily heating up the polity ahead of the polls with what he described as ‘reckless and provocative comments, media blackmail and the criminality of intolerance including the mass destructions of opposition’s campaign properties.
The former House of Representatives member who tagged the action as an unfortunate and criminal. He stated that the vicious plan was concretized when the Edo State government explicitly directed one Mr Dave Giwa Amu who is parading himself as the Managing Director of the Edo State Signage and Advertising Agency to commence the immediate removal and destruction of APC billboards in the State.
Hon Obaihaigbon maintained that the campaign materials which were destroyed by the opposition elements were duly paid for, designed and erected in total compliance with legal provisions guiding the conduct of elections; describing the actions of the purported agency which is yet to receive the backing of the State House of Assembly as unfair, unethical and fraudulent advantage the State approaches the polls.
He, however, disclosed that the APC has already forwarded a petition to the Commissioner of Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for necessary actions.
Reacting to the same scenario, the Chairman of the State Media Campaign Council’s Sub-Committee on Outdoor Advert, Chris Azebamwan, also condemned the ugly incident. He stated that it was quite shameful for a government that has presented itself as civilized and equally driven by law and order.
The State government, however, in a brief reaction described the allegation levelled against the government by the APC of dislodging their campaign materials in different parts of the State capital as having no base.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communications Strategy, Crusoe Osagie who reacted to the allegation stated that the APC and its candidate were only making baseless accusations in order to obtain undue sympathy that would earn them cheap political points.
