EKO HOT BLOG reports that the decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the Council of Chiefs and Elders and formally communicated through a statement issued by the Ebem Ujurueze Palace, Ekeleugo Ebem.
The communiqué, signed by the paramount ruler of Ebem Ohafia, Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, along with other community leaders, described the move as a preventive measure aimed at averting potential fire outbreaks or explosions within the market.
In addition to prohibiting the sale of cooking gas, the community leaders announced a clampdown on several social vices, including cultism, gangsterism, and drug abuse. They declared these activities illegal within the community and warned that offenders would face immediate disciplinary action.
Parents and guardians were urged to monitor their children closely, while landlords whose properties were being used for criminal activities were directed to evict such tenants or risk sanctions from the community.

The communiqué also warned that anyone found in possession of firearms would be handed over to law enforcement agencies for prosecution.
As part of tightened security measures, a two-week quit notice was issued to all scrap dealers operating within the community.
The leaders linked this directive to rising incidents of vandalism and break-ins, which they claimed security reports had traced to the activities of scrap dealers and their suppliers. Non-compliance, they warned, would attract severe disciplinary consequences.
