Coronavirus: Lagos Assembly Approves N20b To Fight Virus
The Lagos State House of Assembly has approved the sum of 20billion naira for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to enable the state successfully combat the outbreak of the pandemic Coronavirus.
The money was approved by the State Assembly through a bill titled ‘Emergency coronavirus pandemic bill 2020’ sponsored by the speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
The bill will afford the governor the needed assistance to effectively contain the virus and enforce compliance of residents to preventive measures in the state, according to the state assembly.
The bill also empowered the governor to declare a three-month state of emergency if the situation requires so.

Deputy Majority leader, Noheem Adams presented the bill on the floor of the house as it passed first, second and third reading at one plenary due to its urgent need.
To ensure availability of adequate funds, section 8 of the bill afford the governor the opportunity to establish corona virus trust fund, to generate required funds to treat cases discovered in the state.
In addition, the bill stipulates a fine of N100,000 for defaulters on preventive measures, one month imprisonment in the correctional centre or three months community service.
According to the bill, where the offense is not spelt out, it attracts N200,000 and also allows the leadership of the various arms of government to structure their own restriction format.
