Coronavirus: Lagos Residents Defy Stay-At-Home Directives
Many Lagos residents have refused to obey the state government’s directive on social distancing, a policy introduced to curb the novel Coronavirus disease which has killed over 25,000 people around the World and has infected more than 50 people in Lagos.
Ekohotblog reports that the residents defied the large gatherings order as they trooped out in mass to recieve the emergency food response recently launched by the state Governor.
The package termed Covid-19 Emergency Food Support, was being rolled out by the official of the State Ministry of Agriculture.
The event which started on Saturday afternoon saw residents of Bade Abiona, Amoo, Orile Agege neglecting the social distance instruction just to get their share of the package.
There was little or no effort by the coordinator to ensure safety of the residence as major outbreak of the pandemic looms in the state.
It would be recalled in a recent press briefing by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that he stressed the need for social distancing to reduce rate of Coronavirus in Lagos State.
While Commissioner for Health in Lagos State , Professor Akin Abayomi, also emphasized that in a press briefing on Friday at Alausa, that Mathematical modeling shows that worst case scenario in Lagos might rise to 39,000 cases, saying however, if social distancing can be ensured, it can be limited to about 13,000.”
All effort to sensitize the security operative which includes the police force and Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps to adhere to strict instructions from the Lagos State Government proved futile, as they are being seen aiding such inexcusable acts.
