Nigeria has recorded new COVID-19 cases as Lagos daily infection drops to 38.

Several Nigerians have given knocks and kudos to theL Federal Government, Lagos State Government for its quick intervention to curb the spread of Coronavirus pandemic and its provision of relief cash materials to the poorest households to cushion the effect of the lockdown on the lives of citizens.

Nigeria which recorded its first case of Coronavirus on 27 February 2020 has since then recorded over 200 cases, 4 deaths and over 25 recoveries.

To curb the spread of the deadly virus, President Muhammadu Buhari last Sunday declared a 14-day lockdown in Lagos, Ogun & FCT which are most hit by the virus. In addition, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar Farouk on Tuesday announced relief materials for the three states affected by the lockdown directive. In the same vein, several state governments like Lagos and Ogun has since commenced the distribution of relief materials to various households in their state.

This development, in addition to the quick health care intervention by State governments and many other communication and testing efforts by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has seen the government receive knocks and kudos from many Nigerians.

Today, Ekohotblog brings you Nigerians assessment of FG and State Government’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The FG’s response to Covid-19 pandemic has unfortunately been a shameful and wanton charade typical of its cancerous political culture. Hence it has further and latently enraged the people who have another reason to doubt whatever image laundry the government tries to present.

Lagos State’s responses are laudable as usual. The lapses we see are as a result of what’s coming from the FG. By and large, God will help us all”. Amen

“For me, you can’t build something on nothing. We have no running system, hence the brilliant efforts of both government is not brilliantly showing as expected.

The environmental health system and actors has been abandoned hence the gap in the preventive response.

Finally, people are currently dying of hunger hence palliatives dispatch should be more radical and not political”.

“I must give kudos to the federal government for the measures taken to contain the spread of the corona virus but I feel they can do better for the citizens by providing basic amenities to the poorest. And the state government should at least sensitize it’s citizens well not by being hostile”.

“As we all know Nigeria has not been the Nigeria we’ve always wanted. That been said, the pandemic has affected even countries that are way better than Nigeria and we are aware of how it’s spreading on high speed.

The Federal Government response was quick I must say, that’s one very commendable move considering the state in which our healthcare system was before the pandemic.

Special kudos to the Lagos state government as it has really shown great leadership during this pandemic by not leaving any stone unturned.

However, there’s no one without mistakes, in curbing the spread of the virus the government ordered a lockdown in some parts of the state without properly considering the ones who make a living out of daily sales, well that is due to the fact that we do not have a database to identify these people properly if relief materials were to be shared.

We’ve seen cases of this pandemic skyrocket in developed countries within weeks of discovery despite their strong database and healthcare system.

Mercy has shined on the Nigerian government and they’ve been able to respond to this pandemic in a way that is averagely acceptable and commendable even with the mistakes”.

“There is a widespread opinion that the federal government dragged her feet as regards Fighting COVID-19, and is now employing a fire brigade approach in order to curb the further spread of this virus.

The play-out of events points unarguably at the poor level of preparedness of the federal government.

This being said, it is commendable that in spite of these initial setbacks, the Federal government is finding ways daily of dealing with the virus, keeping it’s citizens safe and bringing relief to the poor and needy as a consequence of the lockdown in different states.

The states, on the other hand, are also putting in commendable efforts in curbing the further spread of the virus, giving food items and money to its people.

We do hope that the federal government draws critical lessons from this pandemic and invests more into to healthcare sector to ensure a better quality of life for her citizens”.

God bless Nigeria!
