A network of volunteers under the auspices of Project LOUD (Lagos Of Our Dreams) on has commenced distribution of food aid to all those in need during the coronavirus lockdown.
Project LOUD, acting through CovidAid, distributed food items to residents of some streets in Surulere area of Lagos to cushion the effect of the lockdown.
Explaining how people can benefit, Director General of Project LOUD, Niyi Gbodimowo said anybody can benefit as long as they register via online, adding that the initiative was borne out of the desire of public-spirited individuals to assist the needy at this critical point in time.
According to him, “CovidAid uses a safe distribution model that avoids crowd buildup. Beneficiaries register via USSD shortcode or online and we distribute the food aid we receive from our donors to trained local volunteers who wear Personal Protective Equipment for safety.
“Each pack currently contains uncooked rice, beans, garri, spaghetti, groundnut oil, and tomato sauce. It’s packed in a sealed plastic bag, weighs at least 5kg, and is designed to sustain a family of 5 for up to 5 days.
“To request for aid, just dial *371*911# on your MTN, Airtel, or 9mobile phone, or visit https://covidaid.ng to provide your details and we will be in your home to give you your food pack,” Gbodimowo said.
According to him, the target is to distribute the food pack to at least 5, 000 beneficiaries in Lagos State, Ogun State and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
