PSC, Magu

In less than twenty-four hours after he was set free from police custody, the suspended interim chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has written to the presidential committee looking into the allegation of mismanagement of the agency. In the letter addressed to the chairman of the panel, Ayo Salami, one of Magu’s lawyers, Wahab Shittu, referred to the claims that Magu paid N4 billion to the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and another N28 million to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana.

The embattled EFCC Boss explained that the allegations were completely false and an attempt to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the vice president, himself, and Falana. The suspended EFCC Chairman thus clears Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, over alleged corruption. The suspended EFCC Boss equally refuted any connection with a Kaduna-based Bureau De Change Operator, as claimed in the allegation.

The vice president and Femi Falana had earlier denied collecting any money from Mr. Magu. On the search of Magu’s house conducted on Monday, July 6, the embattled Chairman through his lawyer maintained that no incriminating evidence was found – not even dollars, expensive jewelry, and wristwatches were recovered as presented in the media. The legal practitioner stressed that the search of Magu’s house did not reveal any incriminating evidence or materials. He noted that the cars removed from his residence were official vehicles assigned to the suspended EFCC boss. Shittu, however, decried that Magu is yet to be presented with a copy of the allegations against him to enable him to react officially to them.
