EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Edo state police have nabbed a couple and four officers for killing a vigilante.
Inspector Igere Victor, Sgt Umhenin Stanley, Sgt Okongor Ojong, and Cpl Monday Joel are the officers arrested, while Mr & Mrs Sunday Egboh are the couple.
One of the officers invited by Mr Egboh shot the dead.
The state command’s spokeswoman, Kontongs Bello, confirmed the incident, telling journalists in Benin that the police officers were arrested for shooting a vigilante to death, while the couple was arrested for conspiracy and murder.
During a rescue effort on April 22, about 8 p.m., the tragedy occurred.
Mr. Egboh had placed a distress call, claiming that cultist-like youths were attempting to rape his wife.
A patrol team lead by inspector Victor was dispatched to the scene after receiving the call.
However, when the authorities came in the middle of the chaos, one of them allegedly fired a shot that killed the vigilante by hitting him in the chest.
