On Tuesday, the Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, acquitted and discharged four individuals charged with conspiracy, murder, and armed robbery.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the defendants, Abdulahi Oladepo, Momolosho Olanrewaju, Jimoh Azeez, and Ibrahim Adebisi, were arraigned on March 24, 2023, on three counts related to the alleged crimes.
The prosecution, led by Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, called seven witnesses and presented evidence, including the defendants’ statements and pictures of the alleged victim, Ajayi Shola. However, the defense lawyers, Opeyemi Ogunremi, J.S. Balogun, and Adeyinka Opaleke, argued that the prosecution’s case relied on suspicion and conjecture, rather than concrete evidence.
In his judgment, Justice Jubril Aladejana stated, “There is nothing to show that any of the defendants caused the death of Ajayi Shola or had intentions to cause grievous bodily harm to him or anyone else… This case is a classic example of a missing person, where suspicion and conjecture are the basis for charging the defendants to court.”
Justice Aladejana concluded, “The prosecution has not proved conspiracy, armed robbery, or murder against any of the accused persons.
“The four defendants are each not found guilty of conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder. Each of them is hereby discharged and acquitted.”
The defendants were released from custody, and the case was closed.
