Court Approves DIA’s 60-Day Detention of Miyetti Allah Leader, Six Others

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) permission to detain Alhaji Bello Bodejo, President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, alongside six others, for 60 days.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the court’s decision aims to facilitate an ongoing investigation into allegations of banditry and illegal possession of firearms.

Justice Emeka Nwite approved the detention following an ex-parte application filed by DIA counsel I.O. Odom. The case, numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/1875/V/2024, requested a two-month period to ensure a thorough probe into the allegations.

The suspects, apprehended in Nasarawa State on December 11, include Bodejo, Suleiman Abba, Umar Jibrin, Umar Bello, Muhammed Ayuba, Jibrin Baba, and Saidu Wakili. After their arrest by the Nigerian Armed Forces, they were handed over to the DIA for investigation.

An affidavit presented by DIA investigator Bonny Ozegbe revealed that the suspects were involved in an attack on a military installation in Nasarawa State. The assault, allegedly orchestrated by Bodejo, resulted in injuries to soldiers and civilians, theft of military weapons, and significant property damage.

Recovered items included AK-47 rifles and ammunition, while the DIA continues efforts to apprehend additional accomplices.

Ozegbe warned that releasing the suspects at this stage could jeopardize the investigation and threaten national security. Justice Nwite upheld the request, granting the DIA custody of the suspects until March 3, 2025, when the case will be reviewed.

In a separate ruling, Justice Mohammed Zubairu of the FCT High Court ordered the release of Bodejo from Department of State Services (DSS) custody, citing his previous detention without charges as unlawful.
