Court Remands 11 For Allegedly Raping 12-year-old Girl In Jigawa

A Jigawa State High Court sitting in Birnin Kudu Local Government, on Thursday, ordered 11 suspects charged for raping a 12-year-old girl in Dutse Local Government to be remanded in the state’s correctional center.

Ekohotblog gathered that the police in Jigawa State had arrested eleven suspects over the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl on different occasions and locations.

The Prosecutor who narrated this to the court alleged that the accused persons, through deceptive means, lured the girl to where they respectively committed the crime.

According to the Prosecutor, the offence was contravening section 282(1) of the panel code law of Jigawa State.

During the trial, the defence counsel, Bar. AG Wakil said the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the case; therefore, the court requested bail to the accused persons pending when the case was transferred to the appropriate court.

Prosecuting counsel, who is also the State Attorney General, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, appealed to the court not to grant the bail.

Delivering the judgment, the presiding Judge, Justice Musa Ubale, ordered the men to remain in one of the state’s correctional centre until the next hearing on June 25, 2020.
