Court Remands 2 Men For Alleged Kidnapping, Murder

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’Court in Ibadan on Tuesday remanded Ayankunle Ayanleye, 37, and Abubakar Mohmmadu,30, at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ibadan for alleged kidnapping and murder.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Emmanuel Idowu, who did not take the pleas of the defendants, ordered their remand at the SCID, pending the receipt of the case file from the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.

Idowu, thereafter, adjourned the matter until Oct.19 for mention.

The defendants whose addresses were not disclosed in court are facing trial on charges of conspiracy, kidnapping, collection of ransom and murder.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Katherine Michael, told the court that the defendants: Ayankunle and Abubakar, allegedly conspired together with others at large to kidnap and to kill their victim.

” The defendants were alleged to have unlawfully kidnapped one Modupeolu Oyefeso ‘f’ while on transit for the purpose of collecting ransom.

” Ayankunle and Abubakar allegedly collected the sum of N3million unlawfully as ransom from one Mr Oyefeso for the release of his daughter.

” The defendants allegedly caused the death of one Opeoluwa Oladipo, 31, by shooting him on the right side of his neck, ” said prosecutor Michael.

The prosecutor said that the defendants were alleged to have committed the offences on July 10, at about 5 p.m. , at Ebinpejo village along Lanlate Road in Lanlate, Oyo State.

Michael said that the offences contravened Section 3,(1),and (2) 6, 10, and punishable under Section 4 (1) of the Oyo State (Prohibition) Laws, 2016.

He added that they also contravened Sections 316 and 324 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
