EKO HOT BLOG reports that Filippo Ferlazzo, an Italian man, has been convicted and sentenced to 24 years in prison for fatally assaulting Alika Ogorchukwu, a 39-year-old Nigerian street vendor, in Civitanova Marche, Italy, in July 2022.
The assault followed Ferlazzo accusing Ogorchukwu of harassing his girlfriend, resulting in a physical altercation that tragically led to Ogorchukwu’s death on the spot.
Ferlazzo was arrested and charged with murder. He was convicted and sentenced to 24 years in prison by an Italian court on September 28, 2023.
This information was released in a statement on Thursday by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NiDCOM).
In the statement released by NiDCOM which was signed by spokesperson Gabriel Odu, Dabiri-Erewa praised the Nigerian Mission in Rome for handling this issue and others involving Nigerians with diligence.
“I am glad that this case finally received justice. Like I always say, there have to be consequences for actions.” She remarked.
The case has sparked outrage in Italy and around the world. Many people have accused the Italian authorities of failing to protect Ogorchukwu.
