COVID-19: Alara Of Ilara Distributes Nose Mask, Food Items To Epe Community
In light of the outbreak of Covid-19 in Nigeria, The Oba-Elect, Alara of Ilara, Prince Folarin Ogunsanwo on Saturday, organized a Covid-19 relief program to sensitize members of the public, within Epe community.
Eko Hot Blog Correspondent reports that Numerous nose masks were distributed in line with the government’s effort to curb the spread of the virus in our localities.
Food items were also distributed within members of the communities, which include; Ilara, Ibonwon, Odosiwola, Odogbawojo, Odoayan, Igboye, the Christian, and the Muslim community, Widows, and Youths.
The Oba-Elect expressed his contentment that, Epe community has not recorded any case of Covid-19 infection yet.
“This is partly down to our people’s compliance to the directives of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and indeed that of the Lagos State government order.
“We appreciate them greatly for their obedience and patience at this difficult time.
“The pandemic, although, is not anyone’s making, It is indeed ravaging the whole world at this time and we expect our people to continue to comply with these directives.
“With particular emphasis on maintaining a high level of personal hygiene. As part of our social responsibility to members of this community, I shall continue to encourage them to adhere to these proclamations, ” he said.
Ogunsanwo said that, As community leaders and traditional rulers, we are expected to continue to partner the state government in providing relief materials to our people at this trying times.
“The Ramadan has provided us with the opportunity to pray for our nation and indeed share our goods with people around us.
“It is in the light of these, that we have chosen this period to reach out to the less privileged among us. That is the essence of Ramadan, ” he said.
Speaking with our Correspondent, Hon. Adeniyi Saliu, Chairman, Eredo LCDA, said that it is not mere coincidence that we still haven’t recorded any case of Covid-19 in Epe community.
“I believe it is partly down to our conscious effort to preventing the spread of the virus while bringing up initiatives driven by sound health care practitioners within the community.
“We can confidently say that this proactive measure along with the compliance of our people to the regulations of the PTF on Covid-19 is instrumental to the success registered so far.
“The Oba-Elect of Ilara has shown tremendous examples by leading from the traditional front.
“We shall continue to sustain this success and hope that the Virus will be defeated in no time, ” he said.
Earlier, Hon. Ogunkelu Sylvester Oluwadahunsi, House of Assembly member representing Epe Constituency II,
said that, It is quite remarkable that Epe and its environs are among the few local government areas within Lagos that haven’t recorded any case of Covid-19, so far.
“This pandemic is a serious issue but it is definitely a surmountable challenge.
“Our intention, as a matter of urgency is to try to flatten the curve. Kudos must be given to the government of Lagos State for their proactive approach to deal with this crisis, ” Ogunkelu said.
According to the honourable member, he said that this present government, ably led by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, have so far embarked on a rigorous sensitisation program to help spread vital information regarding this virus.
“They have also jointly designed a robust relief intervention programme as palliatives to help cushion the economic effect of the lockdown.
“Myself, as the representative of this wonderful Constituency, I have also given out 2,000 units of Hand Sanitizers, Nose Masks and Hand gloves to members of my constituency.
“I believe these interventions have and will go a long way to help curtail both the Physical and Economic effect of the virus.
“My profound appreciation also goes to the Oba-Elect, Prince Ogunsanwo, for his intervention program today.
“It is such a remarkable feat actually and it means the traditional institutions are ready to get involved in the sustenance of remarkable achievements embarked on by this present administration, ” he said.
He added that, as a spiritual father of the community, he has led by a good example and we are really glad to be part of this program. I believe our people will definitely enjoy his reign as the Alara of Ilara.
The House of Assembly Member, advise people of his constituents to please follow government guideline to help curb the spread of this virus. Together, we would overcome this menace.
Alhaji Sheik Abdulwaheed Ismail, Chief Imam Ibonwon, a beneficiary, said that It has been difficult but we have to commend government effort in curtailing this deadly pandemic virus in our community.
“I am particularly grateful to the Oba-elect of Ilara, for the laudable program.
“I pray God will continue to bless and uphold him. I pray God gives us victory over this virus soonest, ” he prayed.
